39th
position among 13 economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 published
recently by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) . It is no

it was at 81st position , now it has reached 39th position. India 's progress
in the GII ranking is being highlighted across the world. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi has described this high ranking as an achievement of the
country's vibrant innovation and ecosystem. It is worth noting that under the
GII 2024, India ranks first among low-middle income economies. India also ranks
first among the 10 economies of the Central and South Asia region. The Science
and Technology ( S&T ) cluster is ranked fourth in the
ranking . Major Indian cities Mumbai , Delhi , Bangalore and Chennai are among the
top 100 S&T cities in the world The
clusters are listed and India ranks seventh globally in intangible asset intensity . According to GII
2024 , Switzerland , Sweden , the US , Singapore
and the UK are the world's most innovative economies , while
China , Turkey , India , Vietnam and the Philippines are the
fastest growing countries in the last decade. If we also look at the reports of
other global organizations related to intellectual property, research and
innovation, we find that India is constantly moving ahead in this field. India is ranked 42nd among the 55 major economies of the world in the
Global Intellectual Property ( IP ) Index 2024 released
by the Global Innovation Policy Center of the US Chambers of Commerce, an
American industry body .

Undoubtedly, India's ranking in the
world of research and innovation and intellectual property shows that India is
becoming a hub of innovation. Digital infrastructure and digital facilities
also play an important role in promoting research and innovation in India. India

capital. India is also at the forefront in the world in producing management
and commerce and science and engineering graduates. India's industries and
businesses are rapidly modernizing with time. According to Union Agriculture
and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the way India has used
science and technology on a priority basis to solve challenges related to
agriculture , India has rapidly progressed on the
path of agricultural development. A new chapter of agricultural innovation has
been written with the 109 new and improved varieties of 61 crops released in
the fields of Indian Council of Agricultural Research in the month of August
last year. New opportunities for research are increasing in the field of
management, education, commerce and IT .

Supercomputing and Global Inhouse Centres
Certainly, in terms of research and
innovation, India has made good improvements in various areas such as business
expertise , creativity , political
and operational stability , government effectiveness.
Along with this, there has been a big improvement in parameters such as ease of
doing business in India , foreign investment , etc. The immense knowledge capital , start-ups
and unicorns , patent growth , domestic
industry diversification , high -tech manufacturing and effective work done
by public and private research organizations as well as Atal Innovation Mission
have also played an important role in the height of India's research and
innovation. India is progressing in various sectors including infrastructure , health , agriculture

It is also worth mentioning here that recently on 26 September, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi dedicated three PARAM Rudra supercomputers to the nation,
developed indigenously, at a cost of about Rs 130 crore, under the National
Supercomputing Mission ( NSM ). A high performance computing (HPC)
system designed for weather and climate research has also been inaugurated . In
line with the commitment to make India self-reliant in the field of
supercomputing technology, three PARAM Rudra supercomputers have been built.
These supercomputers have been installed in Pune , Delhi and Kolkata for leading
scientific research .
It is important to note that intellectual
property, research and innovation have multi-dimensional benefits. On the basis
of these, entrepreneurs and businessmen from different countries take decisions
regarding starting their business in a country. Governments of different
countries of the world also move forward on the path of making policies for
their global business relations by keeping the Global Innovation Index in mind.

developed countries of the world. While this will ensure global acceptance of
Brand India and Made in India , the country will be seen

goal of making the country the third largest economy of the world by the year
2027 and a developed country by the year 2047, the role of intellectual
property, research and innovation will be made more effective by the government
