Two Indian Journalists Win Pulitzer Prize
Two Indian journalists have achieved a major milestone by winning the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in journalism. Anand RK and Suparna Sharma were honored for exposing digital surveillance and cyber fraud. The Pulitzer Prize winners were announced on May 4.
Anand RK and Suparna Sharma received the award in the “Illustrated Reporting and Commentary” category. They shared the honor with Bloomberg journalist Natalie Obiko Pearson.
According to the Pulitzer Prize website, the Bloomberg report titled “Trapped” tells the disturbing story of an Indian neurologist who became a victim of a digital arrest scam. Through a unique combination of visuals and storytelling, the report highlighted the growing global threat of digital surveillance and cyber fraud in a highly impactful manner.
The Pulitzer Prize, administered by Columbia University in the United States, is regarded as one of the highest honors in journalism, literature, and musical composition.
AP Wins Pulitzer for Investigative Reporting on China
The Associated Press (AP) also won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for its investigative coverage of government surveillance in China and the involvement of American technology companies.
AP journalists Dake Kang, Garance Burke, Byron Tau, Aniruddha Ghosal, and independent journalist Yele Grauer were recognized for their outstanding reporting work.
