In the 2024 list of Global Hunger Index (GHI), this year India is ranked 105th among 127 countries. Last year it was ranked 111th among 125 countries, and in 2022 it was ranked 107th among 121 countries. That is, this year the situation is slightly better. But still the score of the Hunger Index is 27.3 which remains serious. At the same time, Nepal is at 68, Sri Lanka at 56 and Bangladesh at 84. That is, the condition of these countries is better than us. Pakistan's ranking is 109. It is only slightly behind us. 22 countries including China, UAE and Kuwait are at number one. Countries which have a low GHI score also have a low ranking, that is, people there are less hungry. What is the Global Hunger Index? The Global Hunger Index (GHI) tells what is the state of hunger in any country. This list is prepared every year by Concern Worldwide and World Hunger Help (Welthungerhilfe in Germany), a European NGO. The index is prepared after evaluating 4 parameters in different countries around the world. India still faces serious challenges like child malnutrition, with the highest prevalence of wasting among children globally (18.7%). The country has a stunting rate of 35.5%, under-five mortality rate of 2.9% and prevalence of malnutrition of 13.7%. Although India has significantly improved its child mortality rate since 2000, child malnutrition remains a serious issue.
