Amid the political war going on over the opposition's slogan of Save Constitution, the Center has made the issue of emergency its weapon. The central government has declared 25 June as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. The Center described its decision as a tribute to the millions of people who suffered inhuman torture while fighting the battle for restoration of democracy against the Emergency. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that celebrating 25 June as Constitution Hatya Diwas will remind us of what happened on that day and how the Constitution was crushed. On this day in 1975, the then Congress government led by Indira Gandhi had announced the imposition of Emergency on the country and the Emergency continued in the country for about 21 months.
In a notification issued by the Home Ministry on 11 July, it has been said that the Emergency was declared on 25 June 1975. After this, the government of that time grossly misused power and excesses and atrocities were committed on the people of India. And whereas the people of India have strong faith in the Constitution of the country and the strong democracy of the country. Therefore, the Government of India has declared 25th June as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas to pay tribute to all those who faced and fought against the gross misuse of power during the period of emergency and recommit the people of India to not support the gross misuse of power in any manner in future.
