Indian Army has received the first consignment of India-made suicide drone Nagastra-1. These drones have been made by Economics Explosive Limited unit of Nagpur-based company Solar Industries. The army had ordered 480 loitering munitions (suicide drones). Out of these, 120 have been delivered.
The drone has been named Nagastra-1, which has a range of up to 30 km. Its advanced version is capable of carrying more than two kg of ammunition. It will be used to attack enemy training camps, bases and launch pads, so that the risk to the soldiers is minimized.
Loitering Munition (also known as suicide drone or kamikaze drone) is an aerial weapon system. These drones move around the target in the air and carry out a suicide attack.
The accurate attack depends on its sensor. The suicide drone is operated in silent mode and at an altitude of 1,200 meters, which makes it difficult to identify. It weighs 12 kg and can carry a 2 kg warhead.
These drones can remain in the air for 60 minutes in a single flight. If the target is not found, it will also come back. Its soft landing can be done through parachute.
