2 August- Vietnamese doctor receives Ramon Magsaysay Award
The winners of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, known as Asia's Nobel,
have been announced. A Vietnamese doctor has been selected to be awarded the
Ramon Magsaysay Award this year. A Vietnamese doctor who helped get justice for
the victims of the powerful chemical 'Agent Orange' used by the US Army during
the Vietnam War has been selected to be awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award this
year. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is considered Asia's Nobel Prize. The winners
announced include a group of doctors fighting to ensure adequate healthcare for
the poor in rural areas in Thailand, an Indonesian environmentalist, a Japanese
animator working on complex issues for children and a Bhutanese academician
promoting the country's cultural heritage to overcome current crises.
