Anura Kumara Disanayake has taken oath as the 9th President of Sri Lanka in the presence of Chief Justice Jayant Jayasuriya at the Presidential Secretariat. After the oath, Anura said that he will do everything possible to fulfill the responsibility of starting a new era of renaissance in Sri Lanka. Votes were cast for the post of President in Sri Lanka on Saturday. The results were announced on September 22, in which 55-year-old Disanayake, leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party and candidate of the National People's Power (NPP) alliance, was declared the winner. Marxist leader Disanayake defeated Sajith Premadasa of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the nearest rival in the election for the post of President of Sri Lanka. Disanayake and his party are believed to be inclined towards China.
