Justice Sanjiv Khanna will be appointed the next Chief Justice of India. Justice Sanjiv Khanna will take oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India on November 11. Justice Khanna has been a part of many historic decisions related to electoral bonds and abrogation of Article 370. Justice Sanjiv Khanna will have a tenure of 6 months. A day before this, the current Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will retire. Justice Chandrachud took over as the Chief Justice on November 8, 2022. Justice Khanna's tenure as Chief Justice will be a little over six months and he will retire on May 13, 2025. The Hon'ble President, after consultation with the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, appoints Shri Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge of the Supreme Court, as the Chief Justice of the country with effect from November 11, 2024.
