The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav gave revised administrative approval for 'Kanh Diversion Close Duct Project'. This project with an updated cost of Rs 919 crore 94 lakh is set to be completed within the stipulated time frame on a proportionate basis by the contracted agency to facilitate the organization of Simhastha-2028. It is worth mentioning that administrative approval of Rs 598 crore 66 lakh was given for the Kanh Diversion Close Duct Project of Ujjain district. Under the project, it was proposed to flow the polluted water of Kanh river into Kshipra river near Kaliadeh outside the limits of Ujjain city through 16.70 km underground closed duct. On March 15, 2024, work worth Rs 479 crore 89 lakh was executed from M/s Vencer Ujjain Project. The work is to be completed by September 2027. The alignment of the closed duct was changed to prevent polluted water from flowing into the holy Kshipra river. After the change, the current cost has increased by Rs 321 crore 28 lakh to Rs 919 crore 94 lakh due to the proposed 18.5 km cut/cover and 12 km tunnel.
