BJP MP Om Birla has become the Speaker of Lok Sabha for the second consecutive time. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed Om Birla's name in the House, the members present there elected him as the Speaker of Lok Sabha by voice vote. After this, Prime Minister Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took Om Birla to his seat.
BJP leader Om Birla joined the list of leaders Balram Jakhar, GM Balayogi and PA Sangma who became the Speaker of Lok Sabha for the second time. If Om Birla completes his second term, he will be the second leader to do so after Balram Jakhar. Many leaders became the Speaker of Lok Sabha for the second time, but could not complete the full 5-year term. Only Balram Jakhar completed both his terms from 1980 to 1985 and 1985 to 1989.
