The central government launched a pilot project under the PM Internship Scheme on 3 October to promote skill development and provide trained employees to industries and companies. Youth will be able to register in it from 12 October next week. Through this platform of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, internship will be started for 1.25 lakh youth in top 500 companies by December this year. During the internship, Rs 5000 will be given every month, out of which Rs 4500 will be given by the central government and Rs 500 by the company from its CSR fund. Companies can also voluntarily give more than this amount. The youth registered by the central government will be given Rs 6000 as a lump sum separately.
How to register
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced this scheme in this year's budget. For the pilot phase, the portal was opened from 3 October for companies to register their internship opportunities and 111 companies have joined it. Of these, three companies - Mahindra & Mahindra, Alembic Pharma and Max Life Insurance have announced a total of 1077 internship posts in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Gujarat. Provisions of reservation for opportunity will also be applicable on these posts. The internship of the first batch will start from December 2 and the government will spend Rs 800 crore. Companies will access this portal www.pminternship.mca.gov.in and inform about internship opportunities and unemployed youth will be able to register themselves. In the next five years, one crore youth will be trained under this scheme.
