The central government has appointed 1988 batch revenue officer (IRS officer) Ravi Agrawal as the new chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). He will replace Nitin Gupta, whose term is till 30 June. Agrawal is currently working as a member (management) in the board. He is due to retire in September this year, but he will remain in his post till 30 June next year. CBDT is the highest policy maker of the Income Tax Department. CBDT can have six members besides a chairman. Other serving members in the board are Pragya Sahay Saxena, HBS Gill, Praveen Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Sanjay Kumar Verma
