In a stunning display of power-hitting during the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Meghalaya’s young batter Aakash Kumar Choudhary set a new world record by smashing the fastest fifty in first-class cricket history. Playing against Arunachal Pradesh, Choudhary reached his half-century in just 11 balls, surpassing a 13-year-old record.
Record-Breaking Knock in Ranji Trophy
The thrilling encounter between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh took place in Surat. Meghalaya declared their first innings at 628/6, with Aakash Kumar Choudhary remaining unbeaten on 50 runs off 14 balls. Remarkably, he completed his fifty in only 11 balls, breaking the previous record held by Wayne White, who scored a 12-ball fifty for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012.
Breaking a 13-Year-Old Record
Choudhary’s explosive innings also broke the Ranji Trophy record for the fastest fifty, previously held by Bandeep Singh of Jammu & Kashmir, who scored a 15-ball fifty against Tripura in the 2015-16 season. With this performance, Choudhary has etched his name in cricketing history.
8 Sixes in 9 Minutes – A Rare Feat
During his sensational knock, Aakash Kumar Choudhary hit 6 consecutive sixes in a single over bowled by Limar Dabi, becoming only the second batsman after Ravi Shastri to achieve this in the Ranji Trophy. Even more astonishingly, he followed it up with 2 more sixes on the next two balls, becoming the first cricketer ever to hit 8 sixes in 8 consecutive deliveries.
This incredible performance has not only brought Meghalaya cricket into the spotlight but also made Aakash Kumar Choudhary one of the most talked-about names in domestic cricket.
