Ahmedabad Plane Crash: 268 Dead in Tragic Air India AI-171 Accident
As of now, 265 bodies have been recovered from the plane crash that occurred on June 12 in Ahmedabad. Among the deceased were 241 passengers and crew members on board. Additionally, five deaths were reported from the BJ Medical College hostel, where the plane crashed. Over 50 people were present at the hostel during the crash. However, it remains unclear how many hostel residents have died.
Reports indicate that four MBBS students and a doctor’s wife were among the dead. Gujarat ATS has recovered the flight’s Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the debris. An ATS officer mentioned that a forensic team will arrive soon to investigate further.
On June 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ahmedabad. He first surveyed the crash site, then spent about 10 minutes meeting victims at the Civil Hospital.
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner Flight AI-171 took off from Ahmedabad for London on June 12. The flight had 230 passengers, including 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian. Just two minutes after takeoff, the plane crashed.
The passengers included 103 men, 114 women, 11 children, and 2 infants. There were 12 crew members onboard. Among the deceased was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Remarkably, only one passenger survived the crash.
