Airlines to Cancel Flights If Delayed Over 3 Hours Due to Fog in Northern India
Flight services affected in Northern India due to dense fog, new instructions issued for cancellations
The dense fog in most parts of northern India has started affecting flight services in the region. Airlines have been instructed that passengers should not be kept on the delayed flights for more than 90 minutes. This is an important directive as passengers tend to leave for the airport well in advance of their flight time.
However, an important question arises: how will cancelling a flight three hours earlier provide convenience to passengers? Airlines have not been asked to make any alternative arrangements for passengers. Officials have stated that while these new guidelines may not resolve the core issue of delays caused by fog, providing timely information to passengers will help alleviate some of their problems.
Is it correct to cancel a flight three hours in advance?
Officials believe that cancelling a flight more than three hours in advance is not ideal. In many cases, the fog may lift within two to three hours, making it possible to resume flights. Additionally, the overall aviation sector's economy also needs to be taken into account.
Discussions on the fog issue underway
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has mentioned that discussions have been ongoing for the past two months to minimize the incidents of flight delays due to fog. These discussions involve representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airport Authority of India (AAI), India Meteorological Department (IMD), and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Airlines asked to collect customer mobile numbers
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has emphasized that efficient coordination between all departments is essential for smooth flight operations. Airlines have been instructed to maintain full transparency when it comes to informing passengers about flight delays or cancellations. Additionally, airlines and agents have been asked to collect passengers' mobile numbers for timely updates regarding flight statuses.
