Asean member countries include Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos and Vietnam. India has started paying special attention to its cooperation with the countries of the ASEAN region under the Act East policy. Within the first hundred days of the start of the third term, PM Modi visited Brunei, Singapore and welcomed the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Vietnam in New Delhi. A clear example of how the ASEAN region's relations with China and India are progressing was seen on Thursday in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The heads of all the 10 member countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) met with China's PM Li Xiang and a few hours later these leaders met India's PM Narendra Modi during the ASEAN-India summit. The statements issued after both the meetings show how ASEAN countries are uncomfortable and troubled by China's increasing aggression in the entire region, while on the other hand these countries are ready to further strengthen business, defense and security relations with India. ASEAN and India have issued a joint statement stating that they will further strengthen maritime security cooperation, deepen defense and security cooperation and increase joint military exercises.
