Ballon d'Or 2025: Sixth French Player Wins Prestigious Football Award, Bonmati’s Hat-trick in Women’s Category

On September 23, 28-year-old Osman Dembélé clinched the Ballon d'Or title at the ceremony held in Paris, beating Barcelona’s talented teenage player Lamine Yamal. This season, Dembélé scored 35 goals and provided 16 assists in 53 matches for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, due to injury, he missed PSG's league matches against Marseille.

Speaking about his win, Dembélé said, "Honestly, I have no words. It has been a fantastic season with PSG. This is an individual trophy, but in reality, it was won collectively. The Ballon d'Or was never my goal in my career, but I worked hard to help my team win the Champions League." He also emotionally mentioned his mother who was present at the ceremony.

18-year-old Lamine Yamal was the runner-up. The forward from Spain and Barcelona also won the Copa Trophy. Winning this award for the second consecutive time, he has established himself as one of the brightest young stars in world football.

Bonmati Becomes First Woman to Win Three Consecutive Ballon d'Or Awards

On the other hand, Aitana Bonmati became the first female player to win the Golden Ball three times in a row. Bonmati joined legends like Lionel Messi and Michel Platini in this achievement.

The 27-year-old outshone her compatriot and Arsenal star Mariona Caldentey, who scored the winning goal in the Women's Champions League final. Bonmati was also named 'Player of the Tournament' at Euro 2025, although Spain lost to England in a penalty shootout in the final.
