Carbide Gun Ban: Bhopal and Gwalior Districts Prohibit Illegal Firecrackers
Authorities in Madhya Pradesh have imposed a ban on carbide guns made using gas lighters, plastic pipes, and calcium carbide in Bhopal, Gwalior, and one other district. The decision has been taken under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023, issued by the Bhopal Collector and District Magistrate.
The move comes after multiple reports of eye injuries and accidents caused by these homemade carbide guns. These devices, often built using household materials, create loud explosions that pose serious risks to users and bystanders.
Official Order from the Bhopal Collector
According to the order issued by the Bhopal District Collector, no individual, organization, or trader shall manufacture, store, sell, or purchase such prohibited firecrackers or modified carbide guns. The ban covers devices made from iron, steel, or PVC pipes filled with explosive material that produce excessively loud sounds.
The district administration clarified that the sale, distribution, or public display of these illegal and dangerous firecrackers will be strictly prohibited. Violation of the order will attract legal action under the Civil Defence Code and related safety laws.
Reason for the Ban
The ban was implemented after several instances of eye and facial injuries caused by carbide guns were reported across the state. Officials stated that the measure aims to protect public safety during the festive season and prevent any misuse of explosive materials.
The police have also issued control room numbers for citizens to report any manufacturing or sale of such illegal devices.
