Geography has been given the status of the fastest growing branch in social science. It keeps providing people with moment-to-moment information about the changes in society and nature. While studying geography, there are mainly three things told First is data preparation , second is converting it into graph or diagram and third is mapping work. Geography students are taught very well how to convert any information into graph or map through computer. Geography is an important link in the overall study of social science. Remote sensing , which has brought revolution in the world of geography , is the study of data at another level. Whether it is regional data or historical , agricultural field or urban or forest area , all kinds of data are studied in geography. Various companies employ students for such work. Geography students are also needed to prepare social and economic data. They also prove to be very helpful in assessing the social and economic status of people living in a geographical area. That is why various types of voluntary organizations i.e. NGOs employ them. 

Technology has a great influence in the field of geography. Under this, remote sensing and GIS are becoming very popular in geography. Sometimes floods and sometimes droughts occur in different parts of the country. Geography students are taught the art of studying this through satellite during the course. They study the site of the incident or the place of disaster. They provide immediate information to the society and organization with changing technology. Students having specialization in remote sensing and GIS in geography get a chance to work in ISRO and remote sensing agency. Geography students also have a chance to work in the defense and analytical wing. Here they are needed to study any place or location. A geographer is considered more suitable than an engineer to know on which slope a cannon or tanker can go , what is the soil there. An engineer has technical knowledge , not geographical knowledge. In army battles, one also has to have information about the geographical situation. Such students help the army in telling the geographical situation of the place of battle. There are employment opportunities in tourism for students of geography. While students of history become guides of historical sites , students of geography can make a career in eco-tourism. Biodiversity parks are becoming quite popular today. Students of geography are helpful in arranging a tour of these places and providing interesting information about them. Similarly, such students become guides for tourists for zoos or sanctuaries. For example, students of geography are appointed as guides to provide information about the type of forest in Kaziranga , the type of animals and birds living there , the weather . Geography experts are also needed for collecting special types of data in election work. They prove to be suitable not only in metros but also in survey work on the nature of voters in small areas. There is no dearth of opportunities for students of geography in the coming days in the Meteorological Department as well . Students of this subject forecast and predict the weather.

Diverse Career Opportunities in Geography

There are also many opportunities for teaching in schools and colleges for those who study this subject. After doing BA , MA and B.Ed, one gets a chance to become a school teacher and after doing MPhil and PhD, one gets a chance to teach in colleges. There are many types of specializations in Geography at the MA level , which show different career paths. This subject takes some to remote sensing and GIS, while for some it takes them to the field of weather. The field of disaster management is also open for students of Geography. There are many opportunities for such students in the management of natural disasters. Similarly, there is an opportunity to work in coastal zone management as well. Those who have special knowledge of coastal conditions can also work in this field. After doing BA, one not only gets the opportunity to sit in various competitive examinations , but students of this subject are also quite successful in the examinations of Union Public Service Commission. Geography is a suitable and popular subject for civil service. Keeping this in mind, many students are choosing this subject in BA. 

After graduation, students of Geography can make a big contribution to NGOs. There are many opportunities for them in NGOs. Apart from NGOs, they can play a role in the creation, implementation and review of urban and rural plans in government and non-government institutions. Another career option for them is in school and higher education. These students are also provided opportunities in the work of analyzing and deriving results of demographic and meteorological data. Under natural resources, students of Geography play an effective role in assisting in its assessment , exploitation and making long-term plans for future use. Geography is the fastest emerging branch of social science. Talking about career in it, there are many opportunities in specialized fields after BA , MA. For example , today planners are needed for planning in cities, villages and industries . Students of Geography are considered to be very skilled in this. They prepare plans as quickly as possible by taking information. They do mapping of the plan. For such modern interpretation, various companies hire students of geography. In the academic field, geography students are given a lot of importance for collecting social and economic data. There are many opportunities for jobs and research in such an important subject. Today geographers are playing an important role in areas like remote sensing agency , map agency , food security , carbon and energy security , water security , biodiversity. They also play an important role in the evaluation of activities like environmental security and climate change.
