Delhi to Stop Fueling Vehicles Older Than 15 Years

In an effort to control air pollution in the capital, the Delhi BJP government has taken a significant step. On March 1, the Delhi government announced that from March 31 onwards, petrol pumps will no longer provide fuel to vehicles that are older than 15 years. Experts have welcomed this move by the government, while also suggesting a halt to the increasing number of new vehicles.

Decision to Stop Fueling 15-Year-Old Vehicles from April 1

The Delhi government's decision to stop fueling vehicles older than 15 years, effective April 1, has been welcomed by environmentalists. They believe this move will help in implementing the long-delayed directives from the NGT and the Supreme Court to remove old vehicles from the roads. However, they also emphasize that reducing pollution in the capital requires controlling the growing number of new vehicles and strengthening public transport services. Anumita Roychowdhury, Executive Director of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), stated that there is no doubt that old vehicles cause significantly more pollution, which is why the NGT and other courts have been advocating for their removal from the streets.
