Dhar Included in India’s Safe Cities Project, Focus on Women’s Safety

The historic city of Dhar in Madhya Pradesh has been included in the Central Government’s ‘Safe Cities’ project. Under this initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, a total of 10 cities across the country have been selected, with Dhar being one of them.

According to the state government, an amount of ₹10 crore has been allocated for this project in Dhar district, and it will be implemented for at least five years.

The primary objective of the scheme is to make public spaces safer for women and girls. As part of the project, CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive areas, street lighting will be improved, and surveillance systems will be modernized.

The project also includes provisions for creating separate waiting areas for women in district hospitals and health centers. Additionally, ‘Pink Toilets’ will be set up in public places, and women-friendly facilities will be developed at tourist locations.

This initiative focuses not only on physical infrastructure but also on social awareness to bring positive behavioral changes in society.
