Dharambir and Pranav Surma won gold and silver medals respectively in the men's club throw F51 category at the Paris 2024 Paralympics on 4 September, giving India its first-ever first and second podium finishes in athletics at the Games. With these two medals, India recorded its best ever result at the Paralympic Games, surpassing the Tokyo 2020 record. Dharambir, 35, won gold with an Asian record of 34.92m in his fifth attempt at the Stade de France. Pranav Surma made a strong start with an effort of 34.59m and won the silver medal. The club throw is a Paralympic event, just like the hammer throw at the Olympics. However, the club throw is not part of the Olympic programme.
