Dinesh Trivedi Appointed as India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh

Former Union Minister and veteran Bengal politician Dinesh Trivedi was appointed on Monday as India's next High Commissioner to Bangladesh.

He will replace Pranay Verma, who has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Trivedi is expected to assume his responsibilities soon.

The government's decision to send a politician rather than a career diplomat to Dhaka signals a high political priority being given to India’s relations with Bangladesh.

Having represented Bengal, Trivedi is familiar with the Bengali language and culture, which may help strengthen bilateral ties.
