The Ministry of Health has stated that respiratory-related diseases are being closely monitored. The HMPV virus, which arrived from China, raised concerns when 6 cases were reported in India on January 6th. In a single day, two cases were reported in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and one suspected case was found in Gujarat. Meanwhile, two cases were reported from Tamil Nadu.

The ICMR has confirmed 6 cases of the HMPV virus in India, which had been rapidly spreading in China.
The ICMR and the Ministry of Health have clarified that there is no need to panic about the virus. According to Dr. Atul Goyal, Director-General of Health Services, HMPV is not new and has been active for a long time in India and across the world.
Regarding pneumonia viruses, which tend to spread more during winter, the risk of infection increases during the cold season. However, there has been no indication of a rise in infections in India.
A senior official from the Ministry of Health mentioned that during the winter season, the risk of pneumonia virus infection increases, particularly among the elderly and children under 5 years of age.
HMPV was identified in 2001 and has been spreading globally for many years. The virus spreads through the air and respiratory droplets. It can affect people of all age groups.
Both of the cases in India were detected through regular surveillance by the ICMR. Samples from pneumonia cases are sent to laboratories for identification of the specific virus causing the infection.
HMPV is a recognized respiratory disease-causing virus globally, leading to symptoms like coughing, fever, breathing difficulties, and a runny nose in patients.
