Hockey India has announced on 14 August that they are officially retiring jersey number 16 of veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. PR Sreejesh played an important role in getting India a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. After the Olympics, Sreejesh retired from international hockey. PR Sreejesh wore jersey number-16 for nearly two decades, which has been retired from the senior national team. Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also revealed that 36-year-old PR Sreejesh will be the national coach of the junior team. Yes, jersey number 16 is available at the junior level.
