IB Chief Tapan Kumar Deka Gets One-Year Service Extension for Second Time
The central government has granted a one-year extension to anti-terrorism expert and Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Kumar Deka for the second time. He will remain in the position until June 2026.
Tenure Extension
On May 20, the government issued an order extending Tapan Kumar Deka's tenure for another year (until June 2026 or until further orders). Deka is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre.
Initial Appointment and Previous Extension
Tapan Deka was first appointed as the IB Director in June 2022 for a two-year term. Following this, he was granted a one-year extension before his retirement, which was scheduled for June 2024.
Future Plan
Now, he has been granted another one-year extension, allowing him to remain in this important position until June 2026. This reflects his capability and trust placed in him.
