India and Norway Become Green Strategic Partners

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Norway, India and Norway signed five major agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and sustainable development.

The agreements focus on areas such as green energy, marine technology, innovation, sustainability, and geoscience cooperation.

One of the key agreements was signed between India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Norway’s Research Council of Norway (RCN).

This partnership will promote collaboration in research, technology development, innovation, and capacity building through joint workshops, research projects, scientist exchange programs, and cooperation on global challenges such as climate change, clean energy, marine research, and healthcare.

CSIR also signed a new cooperation agreement with Norway’s leading independent research organization SINTEF for the period 2026–2029.

This collaboration will focus on the circular economy and sustainability transition, covering areas like bio-based materials, ocean energy, offshore wind energy, carbon capture and storage, and waste management.

Several CSIR institutes also entered into project-based agreements with SINTEF institutions for collaboration in marine energy and offshore wind technologies.

The initiative aims to strengthen India’s offshore renewable energy capacity and support the country’s renewable energy and carbon neutrality goals.

The project will work on floating offshore wind technology, reducing energy costs, sustainability standards, ESG frameworks, pilot projects, skill development, and industrial growth.

CSIR will provide approximately ₹3.41 crore in funding support for this initiative.
