India Bans 35 Fixed-Dose Combination Drugs

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has directed all state and union territory drug controllers to halt the manufacture, sale, and distribution of 35 fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs. These drugs, which include painkillers, nutritional supplements, and anti-diabetic medications, were found to lack prior approval for safety and efficacy, posing potential health risks.

FDC drugs combine two or more active pharmaceutical ingredients in a fixed ratio. The CDSCO's directive emphasizes the need for a thorough review of approval processes to ensure compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and associated rules. This move aims to safeguard public health by preventing the circulation of unapproved and potentially harmful medications.

For more information, visit the official CDSCO website or consult with healthcare professionals.
