On February 26, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that India is considering increasing its ethanol blend in petrol to over 20%. He mentioned that a committee has been formed under NITI Aayog to explore the possibility of raising the blend percentage. During the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0 Business Summit’, Puri revealed that India has already achieved a 19.6% ethanol blending in petrol. He said, "We are considering a blend of more than 20% biofuel. The NITI Aayog group has already been formed, and they are looking into this matter." He further added, "Our target was to achieve 20% blending by 2026, but we have already achieved 19.6%. I am confident that we will reach 20% by next month." Puri emphasized that the country has a capacity of 1,700 crore liters of ethanol blending and is already using 1,500 crore liters. He also mentioned that India spends $150 billion on fuel imports and highlighted that the focus on green hydrogen is an area that requires more attention.
