India Ranks 5th in Generative AI Adoption Globally
On May 1, India has surpassed countries like Germany, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada in the global race of digital and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.
According to the latest State of India's Digital Economy (SIDE) 2026 report, India has become the fifth-largest digital economy in the world, rising sharply from its eighth position in 2025.
Major Leap in Digital Economy Rankings
The report released by the Centre for Internet and Digital Economy (CIDE) under the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) highlights India’s rapid digital transformation.
India has now overtaken several developed economies including Germany, France, Japan, the UK, and Canada to secure the fifth position globally.
India’s Position in AI Index
In the Artificial Intelligence Index, India has achieved the fourth position, ranking behind only the United States, China, and Singapore.
This marks a significant milestone in India’s growing influence in the global AI and digital innovation ecosystem.
