India Reopens 32 Airports After De-escalation of India-Pakistan Tensions
Following the ceasefire declaration between India and Pakistan on May 10, 2025, calm prevailed along the Line of Control on May 11. As a result, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to reopen 32 airports that were temporarily closed due to security concerns.
The AAI issued immediate instructions for the reopening of these 32 airports on May 12, 2025. This marks the resumption of civilian air traffic in regions affected by the recent tensions. Additionally, 25 air routes have also been reopened, allowing for full-scale operations to resume.
Background: Temporary Suspension of Civilian Flights
Due to escalating tensions and military operations under India’s “Operation Sindoor”, India had conducted precise strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted drone and missile strikes. In light of these threats, India had temporarily suspended civilian air traffic at 32 airports in northern and western regions.
Initially, the suspension was set to last from May 9 to May 15, 2025. However, as the situation stabilized following the ceasefire, the AAI made the decision to resume airport operations earlier, starting May 12.
Flights Resume Across India
With peace holding along the borders and no new escalation reported, the Indian government has ensured that civilian travel can continue safely. The reopening of these 32 airports will provide relief to thousands of travelers affected by the temporary shutdown.
For the complete list of reopened airports and flight schedules, travelers are advised to visit the official AAI website.
