India Retains Top Position in ICC T20 Rankings
Three-time World Cup champion India retained its top position in the ICC T20 rankings released on May 5. England and Australia continue to hold the second and third spots respectively.
India created history in March by becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. The team also won the championship for a record third time. India co-hosted the tournament along with Sri Lanka.
According to the ICC, the latest rankings give 100 percent weightage to matches played after May 2025, while matches played in the previous two years carry 50 percent weightage.
India remains at the top with 275 rating points. However, its lead over England, which has 262 points, has been reduced by one point. Australia, with 258 points, has moved closer to England in third place.
There has been no change in the positions of the top seven teams in the rankings. New Zealand (247), South Africa (244), Pakistan (240), and West Indies (233) have retained their respective places.
Sri Lanka suffered a loss of six rating points and slipped to the ninth position with 221 points. Bangladesh moved up one place to eighth with 225 points. Afghanistan stands at tenth with 220 points, just behind Sri Lanka.
Zimbabwe and Ireland are placed at the 11th and 12th positions respectively in the latest ICC T20 team rankings.
