Successful Test of India’s First Indigenous Glide Weapon System
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully tested India’s first indigenous glide weapon system named TARA on 7 May 2026 off the Odisha coast.
The advanced system features a 1000-kilogram guided kit designed to convert conventional unguided bombs into precision-guided glide weapons.
The weapon system is capable of accurately striking targets at a range of more than 100 kilometers, significantly enhancing India’s indigenous defense capabilities.
The successful test marks an important milestone in the development of advanced military technology and self-reliant defense systems under India’s indigenous defense initiatives.
