India to Host Netherlands in Davis Cup Qualifiers
On December 5, India was awarded the hosting rights for the upcoming Davis Cup qualifier between India and the Netherlands, which will take place on February 7-8 in Bengaluru. Bengaluru won the bidding process, defeating Delhi, which had also shown interest in hosting the important tie. The Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) had previously hosted Togo in February this year and expressed interest in organizing this key match as well.
Bengaluru had last hosted a Davis Cup tie in 2017 against Uzbekistan, where the host team won 4-1. Recently, the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) had hosted the Billie Jean King Cup playoffs in the city. India secured a spot in the qualifiers by defeating Switzerland in the first round of the World Group I in September, while the Netherlands lost to Argentina by a similar margin in the second round.
This victory was India’s first on European soil since 1993. Under the leadership of Sumit Nagal and Southineshwar Suresh, this was India's best performance in the Davis Cup since the format change in 2019.
