India to Launch AI Model at Global AI Impact Summit
India has developed its own Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, which will be launched at the world’s largest AI Impact Summit. India has developed 200 AI models so far and continues to work in this direction. The summit will be held from 16-20 February at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, with representatives from 100 countries attending. Heads of state from 15 countries and CEOs of 100 global companies, including Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Reliance, will also be present.
Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on 30 January that India aims to provide a reliable and secure AI model to the world. This means, for example, if someone asks AI for medical advice, the AI will provide an answer. However, the response is trustworthy only if the AI also cites the source of its answer.
India has invested 7 billion USD so far in AI-related infrastructure and development, with plans to double this investment soon. Vaishnaw mentioned that India is developing its AI model keeping the entire world in mind, especially low-income countries. Just as in semiconductors, India is preparing a skilled workforce for AI. Over 500 universities will be equipped with AI infrastructure to provide students with complete knowledge of AI.
A comprehensive policy is being drafted under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister’s Chief Scientific Advisor to govern AI. Additionally, the government may consider establishing an AI Economic Council, as recommended in the recently presented Economic Survey.
Vaishnaw said that given the rapid pace of AI adoption, significant changes could happen in a few months. However, AI has reduced domestic job loss risks. This year, the IT industry has employed 33% more people compared to last year.
