India-UK Free Trade Agreement Likely to Be Implemented from May
The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to come into effect in the second week of May 2026, significantly boosting trade between the two countries.
Under this agreement, 99% of Indian goods will enter the United Kingdom duty-free, while India will gradually reduce import tariffs on selected British products.
The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed between India and the United Kingdom on July 24, 2025. The agreement aims to strengthen economic cooperation and trade relations.
According to sources, both countries have set a target to double bilateral trade from $56 billion to a significantly higher level by 2030.
Products such as automobiles and whisky from the UK will see phased reductions in import duties under the agreement.
This agreement is expected to open new opportunities for exporters, strengthen economic ties, and enhance global trade relations between India and the UK.
