Indian Conservationists Receive Whitley Award 2026

Indian conservationists Barkha Subba and Parveen Sheikh have been honored with the prestigious Whitley Award 2026 for their remarkable contributions to wildlife and environmental conservation.

Barkha Subba received recognition for her work in protecting the habitat of the Himalayan salamander, a rare and ecologically important species found in the Himalayan region.

Parveen Sheikh was awarded for leading community-based conservation efforts to protect the nesting sites of the Indian skimmer along the Chambal River.

The Whitley Award is internationally recognized for supporting conservation leaders working towards biodiversity protection and sustainable environmental practices.
