Sports Ministry Approves India's First Golf League
On June 26, the Ministry of Sports granted approval to the Indian Golf Union (IGU) to organize the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) in January next year. IGU's Director, Major General (Retd.) Bibhuti Bhushan, along with board members of IGPL and the General Secretary of the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI), Champika Sayal, met with the Minister of Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on Wednesday, after which the ministry's approval was granted.
Ministry's Approval for IGPL
Bibhuti Bhushan shared in a press release, "I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Sports has granted us approval to organize India's first-ever Indian Golf Premier League. The aim is to popularize golf in India." He further stated, "The IGPL will take place in January 2026. Through the IGPL, we aim to discover and nurture world-class golf talent that will represent India on the global stage."
