Indian Sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar Passes Away at 100

The death of renowned Indian sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar marks the end of an era in the art world. He passed away at the age of 100 on December 17, 2025, at his residence in Sector 19, Noida. Ram Sutar had been ill since September. He lived for 100 years and 10 months. His final rites were performed in Sector 94, Noida, where many prominent leaders paid their respects, including Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and Maharashtra Minister Jay Kumar Jitendra Singh Rawal. Ram Sutar’s passing was mourned by all who had the privilege to know him and witness his monumental contributions to art.

Ram Vanji Sutar was born on February 19, 1925, in Gondur village, Dhule district, Maharashtra. He studied at the prestigious JJ School of Arts in Mumbai and went on to revolutionize Indian sculpture over his seven-decade-long career. His ability to bring life to sculptures, making even the veins in the bodies seem alive, earned him recognition as one of India’s greatest sculptors.
