Indian Startup Digantara to Track Missiles from Space
Indian space startup Digantara, known for monitoring space debris, is now preparing to enter the field of space-based missile tracking. Both space debris monitoring and missile tracking rely on satellite technology, and governments around the world are showing increasing interest in missile tracking concepts from space.
This sector is rapidly emerging as a key component of the global space economy, driven by growing security and surveillance requirements.
Expansion of Satellite Surveillance Capabilities
According to Anirudh Sharma, Co-founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based Digantara Industries, the company successfully launched its space surveillance satellite named “SCOT” in January this year.
The company plans to launch 15 additional surveillance satellites during 2026–27 to significantly enhance its space monitoring capabilities.
Missile Detection and Early Warning Systems
In addition to space surveillance, Digantara is also planning to launch two “Albatross” satellites in 2026–27. These satellites will enable precise missile detection and allow for early warning alerts.
Alongside these satellites, the company will also deploy “Skygate”, an expanding network of ground-based sensors designed to provide continuous monitoring of critical operational areas.
Together, these technologies aim to strengthen space situational awareness and improve real-time monitoring capabilities from both space and ground systems.
