Indian Teacher Rouble Nagi Wins Global Teacher Prize 2026, Receives $1 Million

India shone on the global stage in Dubai with Mumbai-based teacher Rouble Nagi being honored with the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2026. The award was presented by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Along with the recognition, she received $1 million, which is approximately ₹8 crore.

Innovative Teaching Approach

Rouble Nagi has redefined education beyond textbooks by using art as a medium to teach children. She transformed the walls of Mumbai's slums into vibrant learning spaces, calling them 'Living Walls of Learning'. Originally from Jammu & Kashmir, she has been working in the education sector for several years.

Future Plans

After winning the award, Rouble Nagi stated that she intends to use the prize money for social welfare. She plans to establish an institution that offers free vocational training to those in need and aims to equip children with digital literacy skills for future employment opportunities.

Global Competition

For this year's award, more than 5,000 nominations came from 139 countries, with the Indian teacher emerging victorious among them.
