India's Airstrike in Pakistan's Punjab Province

On May 6, 2025, India launched 'Operation Sindoor', a series of airstrikes targeting militant infrastructure in Pakistan's Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including Indian and Nepali nationals.

The targeted locations included Bahawalpur, Muridke, Faisalabad, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, known to host facilities associated with militant groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Indian officials reported the elimination of approximately 70 militants within 24 hours of the strikes.

Pakistan condemned the airstrikes as an "act of war" and vowed retaliation. In response, Pakistan's military claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and reported civilian casualties, including women and children. The situation has raised concerns of further escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations.
