India's One-Third GDP with 284 Billionaires: Hurun Global Rich List 2025
The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 has been released, revealing significant changes in the wealth of India's richest individuals. Mukesh Ambani, India's wealthiest businessman, has fallen out of the top 10, but remains the richest Asian. On the other hand, while Gautam Adani is not in the top 10, his wealth has seen the largest global increase.
In 2024, the wealth of India's 284 billionaires grew by 10%, reaching ₹98 lakh crore, which is one-third of the country's GDP. Notably, India has surpassed China in terms of average wealth per billionaire, with each Indian billionaire holding an average wealth of ₹34,514 crore, compared to China’s ₹29,027 crore.
According to the Hurun Global Rich List released on March 27, Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, saw the largest increase in wealth globally, with his fortune growing by ₹1 lakh crore, reaching ₹8.4 lakh crore. Meanwhile, Mukesh Ambani's wealth shrank by 13% to ₹8.6 lakh crore. However, Ambani still retained his title as the richest Asian.
The average age of Indian billionaires is 68 years, which is two years higher than the global average. Roshni Nadar, with a total wealth of ₹3.5 lakh crore, has become the richest woman in India and the fifth richest woman globally. She inherited a 47% stake in HCL from her father, Shiv Nadar. Razorpay's Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur, with a wealth of ₹8,643 crore, are the youngest Indian billionaires.
