Indore-Pithampur-Ujjain Metro Industrial Corridor to Generate 600,000 Jobs
The foundation stone of the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor was laid on May 3 by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The project will begin with a 20 km stretch and will eventually expand into a 100 km long Metro Industrial Investment Region.
This corridor will provide direct connectivity from Indore to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Ahmedabad Corridor. The project is expected to attract an investment of around ₹1 lakh crore and generate employment for approximately 600,000 youth.
The Chief Minister stated that this corridor will serve as the backbone of economic empowerment in the state and will usher in a new era of investment and employment in Indore. He described it as the “growth spine” of Madhya Pradesh’s industrial development.
Development Plans
In the first phase, the project will focus on developing industrial and commercial infrastructure, including data centers, green industries, and knowledge-based sectors. A high-tech urban city will also be developed over 3,300 acres with modern transportation systems.
Industrial Cluster Across Five Districts
The corridor will initially cover 20 km and later expand to 100 km. It will connect Indore directly with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Key sectors such as green industries, fintech, data centers, and high-tech industries will be promoted.
Five districts—Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas, and Shajapur—will collectively form a major industrial cluster.
Farmers as Stakeholders
The project uses a land pooling model, under which farmers will receive 60% of developed land in return for their original land. The government has already distributed developed plots worth ₹650 crore to farmers.
Farmers from 17 villages will directly benefit from this scheme. This model ensures that farmers are not just compensated but also become active participants in future economic growth.
