Indore Wins Cleanest City Title for 8th Consecutive Year in Swachh Survekshan 2025
New Delhi, July 17: The Government of India has released the results of its annual cleanliness survey – Swachh Survekshan 2025. Once again, Indore has topped the rankings, winning the title of the cleanest city in India for the eighth consecutive year under the Super Swachh League category.
Surat (Gujarat) secured the second position, while Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) ranked third. Since 2017, Indore has continuously dominated the rankings and become a national model for urban cleanliness and hygiene.
President Honors 8 Cities from Madhya Pradesh
On July 17, President Droupadi Murmu honored eight cities from Madhya Pradesh for outstanding performance in different cleanliness categories under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
- Indore received the award under the Super Swachh League for the 8th time.
- Bhopal was awarded as the Best Capital City in India.
- Ujjain received recognition in the category of cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakhs.
- Budhni was honored in the category of towns with a population under 20,000.
- Other recognized cities include Gwalior, Dewas, Shahganj, and Jabalpur.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's Statement
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav expressed pride over the state's achievement. He congratulated sanitation workers, mayors, councilors, officials, employees, and citizens. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for Swachh Bharat and praised Madhya Pradesh for keeping pace with this mission.
He also emphasized that Bhopal, known for its natural beauty, has now emerged as a role model in cleanliness and has been recognized as the best capital city in India.
Changes in Cleanliness Ranking System
Commissioner of Urban Development, Sanket Bhondve, shared that the ranking system was revised this year. Cities that consistently performed well in previous years were grouped into a special league, where Indore secured the top position again. Rankings have now been determined based on city population categories and detailed reports will follow soon.
