ISRO Successfully Grows Spinach in Space

ISRO has achieved success in growing spinach in its space lab. This lab is orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 350 kilometers. Spinach was chosen because its green color makes it easier to capture images through in-built cameras, allowing scientists to track any changes. After successfully germinating beans in space, ISRO has now succeeded in growing spinach in its lab. The lab was created using the PSLV rocket and is orbiting Earth at 350 kilometers. Scientists are conducting experiments under the POEM-4 mission using the fourth stage of the PSLV rocket. Scientists involved in the experiment have reported that spinach cells are developing a callus, as sent by Amity University Mumbai to space. When cells divide to form a group of cells, it is known as a callus. Growing plants in near-zero gravity conditions is a significant milestone in space biological research. Amity University Mumbai's Vice Chancellor, AW Santosh Kumar, stated that initial data from PSLV Orbital Experimental or POEM-4 indicates signs of callus growth in spinach. Amity University had sent the Amity Plant Experimental Module in Space (APEMS) along with the PSLV-60 rocket for the experiment. Under the 'Spadex' mission, PSLV-C60 rocket placed two satellites into orbit on December 30.
