ISRO's Third Launch Pad to be Built at Sriharikota
A top scientist has revealed that a third launch pad is set to be developed at Sriharikota within the next four years. Padm Kumar ES, Director of the Satish Dhawan Space Center and distinguished scientist at ISRO, provided this information.
He explained that ISRO requires larger launch vehicles to continue advancing its plan of launching satellites weighing more than 12,000–14,000 kg into various orbits. To fulfill this objective, ISRO is planning the third launch pad.
Padm Kumar further stated, "We are planning to develop, establish, and operationalize the third launch pad within four years. Activities for this project are already in progress, and we are in the process of starting the procurement phase while identifying the right vendors who will provide the necessary support for this mega project."
Once the third launch pad is operational, it will be used to launch satellites weighing over 14,000 kg, which will be carried into space by the next-generation launch vehicles (NGLV).
