Jemimah Rodrigues Appointed as Captain of Delhi Capitals for WPL 2025
Delhi Capitals have made a leadership change ahead of the upcoming season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). The team has handed over the captaincy to India's Jemimah Rodrigues for the upcoming season. She had previously been serving as the vice-captain, but she will now lead the team as the captain in the next season.
Previously, the captaincy was held by Meg Lanning, but the franchise decided not to retain her. After the decision, the team’s owner, Parth Jindal, stated that he wanted to give the captaincy to an Indian player. On December 23, Delhi made the decision to appoint Jemimah as the captain, fulfilling this goal.
Jemimah Surprised by the Announcement
Delhi Capitals posted a video on their official X handle showing the entire process of appointing Jemimah as the captain. It was revealed that Jemimah had no prior knowledge about it. She was called to an event under the pretext of attending a function, only to be handed the responsibility of leading the team. The video also featured conversations with her family members, who shared insights about Jemimah's struggles and cricket journey. Later, Parth Jindal, the team owner, handed her a Delhi Capitals T-shirt with "Captain" written next to her name. Jemimah was left surprised and deeply pleased with the announcement.
Jemimah's Remarkable World Cup Performance
Jemimah is the player who played a pivotal role in India's victory during the recent ODI World Cup jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
