Admissions Begin in 138 Top Institutes Including IITs and NITs
Following the declaration of the JEE Advanced results, students are now primarily focused on selecting the right college and branch. Most aspirants aim to secure admission to a reputed IIT along with their preferred engineering discipline.
The JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling process for admissions into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs has officially commenced. The entire counselling process will be conducted online.
Through JoSAA counselling, students will have a one-time opportunity to fill their choices from more than 900 academic programs offered across 138 participating institutes.
Rank-Wise Chances of Getting Colleges and Branches
Rank Under 100
According to education expert Amit Ahuja, candidates securing an All India Rank (AIR) under 100 have a strong possibility of obtaining Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in top IITs such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras.
IIT Bombay CSE is generally the most preferred choice among students and typically closes around AIR 61. IIT Delhi CSE is often the second preference, followed by IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras Computer Science programs.
Rank 100 to 500
Candidates in this range may secure Mathematics and Computing (MnC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, and Electrical Engineering programs at IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and other leading IITs. IIT Kharagpur Computer Science may also be attainable.
Rank 500 to 1000
Students may have chances of getting Computer Science at IIT BHU (Varanasi), IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Guwahati. Core engineering branches at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur are also likely options.
Rank 1000 to 4000
Candidates in this range may secure Computer Science in IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Indore, IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Patna, and IIT Bhubaneswar.
They may also obtain non-CSE branches such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Production Engineering in IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur.
Rank 4000 to 8000
Students may receive Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, and other branches in IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT BHU.
Lower-demand branches in IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras may also be available. Computer Science seats may be accessible at newer IITs such as IIT Palakkad, IIT Tirupati, IIT Goa, IIT Dharwad, IIT Bhilai, and IIT Jammu.
Rank 8000 to 12000
Candidates in this range may secure core and interdisciplinary branches in IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Indore, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Patna, and IIT Dhanbad.
Additionally, branches such as Biological Sciences, Naval Architecture, Mining Engineering, Polymer Science, and Ceramic Engineering may be available in older IITs.
Rank 12000 to 17000
Students with ranks between 12,000 and 17,000 may have opportunities in newer IITs including IIT Palakkad, IIT Tirupati, IIT Goa, IIT Dharwad, IIT Bhilai, and IIT Jammu across various engineering disciplines.
Category and Female Pool Considerations
The possibility of obtaining a seat in an IIT varies significantly depending on the candidate's category. In addition, female candidates benefit from the 20% female supernumerary quota, which often extends admission opportunities to considerably lower ranks compared to the general closing ranks.
