Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani is set to become the next Vice Chief of Army Staff as the government has approved his appointment to the post, official sources said. The officer, who is currently commanding the Army's Central Command, will replace Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi.
Lt Gen Dwivedi, currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff, will be the next Army Chief after General Manoj Pandey retires on June 30. Lt Gen Subramani has been appointed as the next Vice Chief of Army Staff, military sources said.
Lt Gen Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in 1985. He has had a long and illustrious military career spanning over 37 years.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy, the officer has also studied at the Joint Services Command Staff College, Bracknell (UK) and the National Defence College, New Delhi.
He holds a Master of Arts degree from King's College, London and an M.Phil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.
Lt Gen Subramani has had the distinction of commanding a battalion during 'Operation Rhino' in Assam, an infantry brigade on the International Border with Pakistan and a 'Black Cat' Division in Northeast India.
He also commanded the North India Area and the Premier Khadga Corps in Ambala in 2020.
Lt Gen Subramani has also held several key appointments, including Brigade Major of a Mountain Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary in the Military Secretary Branch, Colonel General Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, Deputy Director General of Military Intelligence at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence and Brigadier General Staff at Eastern Command
